Coffee Nook

woodworking

The coffee nook was a Christmas present to my wife for 2025.

I had plenty of leftover Walnut from the dining table. I didn’t use any of the 6/4 though, I’m saving that for other things.

It’s just a simple 3 cabinets. The inner carcass is 3/4” plywood, I threw a walnut stain on it to camoflauge it a bit.

The outside left edge is a panel of walnut I glued up.

The face of the unit and drawers are all walnut.

The drawer boxes I made out of some cherry I had brought with me from Florida.

I used a dovetail jig to make some half blind dovetails for the drawers (though the back is just a rabbet or butt joint, I can’t recall).

Again I finished with boiled linseed oil.

I got the counter top at A1 cabinets and granite (http://a1cabinetsgranite.com/). I was really happy that they managed to squeeze me in before Christmas, that was awesome.

With the countertop, I do now regret cutting out the spot for the spent grounds catcher. I had one like this when I worked as a Barista back in 2007, so I hyperfocused on having it and then afterwords I realized it locked it in to being a coffee nook. Oh well.
